How to Planting Caladium Bulb

1. Soil
A good substrate mix consists of

  • 2 parts coco peat
  • 2 parts peat moss
  • 1 part coco chips
  • 1 part perlite

2. Planting Depth:
Plant the caladium in soil approximately 1-2 inches deep.

3. Watering:
After planting the caladium bulb, water the soil until it’s wet but not waterlogged. Subsequently, add only a small amount of water to maintain soil moisture without making it soggy.
If leaves yellow and drop, it may indicate dryness. If placed in direct sunlight with dry soil, consider using a tray under the pot.

4. Sunlight:
Caladiums prefer partial shade, around 4 to 6 hours of sunlight.

5. Fertilizer:
Caladiums don’t require excessive fertilizer. It’s recommended to add a small amount of liquid or tablet fertilizer sparingly

How to Planting Seed

Strengths of the tissue paper method

  1. Easy to control and observe water levels on tissue paper.
  2. Faster seed germination due to water induction, promoting quick swelling and germination.
  3. Suitable for seeds with a slower germination process.

Weaknesses of tissue paper method

  1. Ensure that there is enough water in the container.
  2. Small size of the plant during seed germination may require a prompt transfer to soil

Strengths of peat moss

  1. During seed germination, keeping them in peat moss can promote strong root development, resulting in larger sprouts.
  2. A standard method that saves time and is suitable for a large quantity of seeds.

Weaknesses of peat moss

  1. Challenging for beginners to control moisture levels and observe water content.
  2. Slower germination compared to the tissue method. If water levels are insufficient, seeds will germinate slowly or excessive water can induce seed rot.

Update on the germination test results using two different planting materials over a 26-day period, including tissue paper and peat moss.

From the test results, two main points can be summarized:

  1. Germination speed in the first 10 days, ranked from fastest to slowest:
    Tissue paper > Peat moss.
  2. Growth of seedlings for 26 days, ranked from largest to smallest:
    Peat moss > Tissue paper.

However, in cases where customers encounter issues with slow germination or very low germination rates, we suggest using tissue paper instead of peat moss, as it is easier to monitor for moisture levels
